About Buddha
Buddha – Sanskrit for the awakened one – is an enlightened being upon whose teachings Buddhism was founded. A Buddha is one who as reached wisdom, or “Bodhi” – an intellectual and ethical ideal that can be achieved by humankind. Buddhists believe that a Buddha is born in each aeon of time, and Gotama – the sage who achieved enlightenment at Bodh Gaya under the bodhi tree – is our Buddha, and the seventh Buddha in succession.
