About Lakshmi
Lakshmi – or Laksmi – is the radiant Hindu deity of good fortune; wealth, health, youthfulness, and beauty. The word “Lakshmi” is derived from the Sanskrit word “Laksya,” meaning goal or aim. The wife of Vishnu, Lakshmi is adored by many Hindu households for her prosperous nature and bringing forth good luck.
Lakshmi is depicted holding and surrounded by objects of her power:
Clasping lotus buds and gold coins, her four arms represent the four ends of human life: “dharma,” or righteousness; “kama,” or desires; “artha,” or wealth; and “moksha,” or liberation from the cycle of birth and death. The lotus stands for beauty and fertility; the gold coins represent wealth. The two elephants remind us that steady efforts based in wisdom will lead to prosperity.
Mantra: Om Maha Lakshmi Namo Namaha (Bowing to Goddess Lakshmi for abundance in all facets of my life). Repeat this mantra 108 times; this signifies the number of beads on a mala.
